Santa María Magdalena, los tiempos barrocos de una parroquia sevillana

Abstract

Los tiempos Barrocos fueron buenos tiempos para las parroquias sevillanas, ejerció los controles oportunos sobre su feligresía, unos vecinos que tenían a la institución como cohesionador social, punto de referencia geográfica, y medio para recibir la asistencia física y espiritual que requerían; todo ello acompañado de hambrunas, epidemias e inundaciones que unidas a una crisis económica importante hacían que la parroquia cumpliera con la actividad benéfica-asistencial que desempeñaba el clero. La actitud de hombres y mujeres ante la muerte y con ello la salvación del alma también fue un añadido más para que la parroquia encuadrara en su cometido afianzar las relaciones productivas de sus núcleos, aumentaron las propiedades por fundaciones de capellanías y patronatos, que quedarían reflejados en los asientos contables de los Libros de Fábrica a cargo de los mayordomos.

The Baroque times were good times for the sevillian parishes, it exercised the opportune controls over its parishioners, some neighbors who had the institution as a social cohesive, a geographical point of reference, and a means to receive the physical and spiritual assistance they required; all this accompanied by famines, epidemics and floods that together with a major economic crisis made the parish comply with the charitable-assistance activity carried out by the clergy. The attitude of men and women before death and with it the salvation of the soul was also another addition for the parish to fit in its mission to strengthen the productive relations of its nuclei, increased the properties by foundations of chaplaincies and patronages, which would be reflected in the accounting entries of the Factory Books in charge of the stewards.
