El coro y las ceremonias en la catedral de Michoacán durante el siglo XVIII

Abstract

El coro de la iglesia catedral de Michoacán se suprimió de la nave central a finales del siglo XIX y se acondicionó una nueva estructura en el ábside, detrás del altar mayor. Esta circunstancia obliga a inferir por medio de la documentación cómo se disponía este lugar primordial para el cabildo eclesiástico y qué imágenes contenía junto con el mobiliario. El coro se convirtió en un sitio donde se ponía en práctica el saber ceremonial de las catedrales que involucraba no sólo a la corporación, sino también a un grupo importante de ministros que apoyaban el curso de los oficios divinos. En el presente artículo se abordan las noticias sobre la construcción y equipamiento de este espacio litúrgico, luego se estudian las medidas y estrategias que se llevaron a cabo para el cuidado del culto divino y, finalmente, se analiza la defensa del clero catedral de su posición jerárquica en este sitio exclusivo.

The choir of the cathedral church of Michoacán was removed from the central nave at the end of the 19th century and a new structure was fitted out in the apse, behind the main altar. This circumstance forces us to infer from the documentation how this primordial place was arranged for the chapter and what images were displayed alongside the furniture. The choir became a place where the ceremonial knowledge of cathedrals was put into practice, involving not only the corporation, but also an important group of ministers who supported the course of the divine offices. This article addresses the news about the construction and equipping of this liturgical space, then the measures and strategies that were carried out for the care of divine worship and, finally, the defense of the cathedral clergy of their hierarchical position in this exclusive site.
