Descripción
This article studies the biography of the brother Fray Pablo de Santa María by Fray Jerónimo Moreno to spread his virtues and miracles. Fray Pablo was a walking saint, a popular man in Seville at the end of the XVI century and his Life is representative of the subgenre of the venerable men not canonised that was great success in the Baroque era. The first part of the study analyses the hagiographic model that led to the figure of the humble doorkeeper, "father or the poor", comforter of the afflicted people. In the second place it focus on the book like a devotional object and a perfect example of the baroque speech of the disillusionment of the senses that works us a paraphrase of the vero icono from the servant of the Lord. Subsequently, the scene of the death reaches the climax of the process of verifying the spiritual graces that God makes in his son to grant his friends. Finally, the repertory of the miracles of healing through his relics seems a sermon base on the stories and examples of his devotees.
