Fiestas de exaltación al rey Carlos IV con motivo de su proclamación en la Ciudad de los Reyes.

Abstract

En este trabajo estudiamos las fiestas de proclamación de Carlos IV en la ciudad de Lima. Para ello, examinaremos las distintas fases del ceremonial desde el momento en el que se recibe la Real Cédula en la que se comunica la muerte del monarca Carlos III, así como la posterior en la que se proclama a Carlos IV como monarca legítimo. En segundo lugar, analizaremos la transformación que experimenta la ciudad para la celebración de estas fiestas, en las que se crea un ambiente que rompe la cotidianidad limeña. Por último, nos detendremos en la sociedad y la función que van a desempeñar las principales autoridades e instituciones, teniendo un papel fundamental dentro del cortejo y la jura real, demostrando su posición y poder. Así mismo, analizaremos las fiestas reales acometidas tras la jura y organizadas por tribunales, gremios e indígenas.

In this work we study the proclamation festivities of Carlos IV in the city of Lima. For this, we will examine different phases of the ceremonial, from the moment in which the Royal Certificate is received (in which the death of the monarch Carlos III is reported) to the moment when Carlos IV is proclaimed the legitimate monarch. Secondly, we will analyze the transformation experienced by the city for the celebration of these festivities, through the creation of an environment that breaks with everyday life in Lima. Finally, we will analyze society and the role that the principal authorities and institutions played, especially within the courtship and the royal oath, demonstrating its position and power. Likewise, we will analyze the royal festivities organized by the courts, guilds, and the indigenous people.
