Niculoso Pisano y Portugal. Nuevos datos y algunas hipótesis.

Abstract

Niculoso Francisco Pisano, activo en Sevilla, al menos, entre 1503 y 1526, fue un famoso ceramista que trajo de Italia a España una nueva técnica de pintar cerámica y un nuevo repertorio ornamental renacentista. El nuevo procedimiento permitía a los artistas pintar sobre cerámica de forma muy similar a la que usaban sobre madera o sobre el muro. Pero en su taller fueron producidos no solo azulejos pintados sino también otros muchos de arista y también terracotas vidriadas. Muchos de estos productos fueron enviados desde Sevilla a Portugal durante las tres primeras décadas del siglo XVI como sabemos por ciertos documentos españoles y por algunas evidencias materiales portuguesas. Sus documentadas relaciones con la importante comunidad de portugueses en Sevilla debieron constituir la mejor vía para hacer llegar allí sus obras. Algunas de ellas ya han sido identificadas y otras esperamos que puedan serlo en el futuro.

Niculoso Francisco Pisan, active in Seville al least between 1503 and 1526, was a famous ceramic painter who brought from Italy to Spain a new technique of painting pottery and a new Renaissance ornamental repertoire. This new procedure allowed artists to paint on a ceramic surface in a very similar way as they did on wood or on the wall. In his workshop were produced not only painted tiles but also many arista tiles and glazed terracotta. Many of these products were sent to Portugal during the first three decades of the sixteenth century as we know from certain Spanish documents and from some Portuguese material evidences. His relationship with the important Portuguese community in Seville may have been a good way to send his works there. Some of them have already been identified and hopefully many others could be in the future.
