Un acercamiento a las piezas y colecciones de arte indígena americano en museos españoles.

Abstract

En España, distintos museos e instituciones tienen en su acervo piezas indígenas americanas, adquiridas por medio de viajes de estudio, compras o donaciones. La pertenencia de este tipo de objetos suele responder a dos tendencias: la generación deliberada de una colección, o la adquisición fortuita y no premeditada de uno o varios ejemplares. Su muestra al público suele seguir criterios antropológicos o etnográficos, aunque por razones temáticas, de calidad o de cantidad no siempre se exponen. En la presente investigación, tratamos algunas de las colecciones más conocidas, como las del Museo de América o el Museo Nacional de Antropología; al mismo tiempo que señalamos la presencia de la América indígena en otros enclaves museográficos de nuestra geografía.

Many museums and institutions in Spain have Native American objects in their collections, which were obtained through archaeological research, purchases or donations. The ownership of these pieces usually arises in two cases: either the museum wishes to acquire the objects for a collection, or the museum obtains the objects unintentionally through bequests and legacies. These objects were valued because of their anthropological and ethnographic value, instead of their artistic value, which is represented in how they were displayed. In this study, collections of well-known museums such as the Museum of America or the National Museum of Anthropology are explored, in order to show the variations of these objects, their acquisition and their display
