As a unique case in the series of portraits of dead nuns in Nueva Granada who were painted once in the time of death, the Dominican Sister María Gertrudis Teresa de Santa Inés (1668 - 1730) in Nueva Granada got instead three portraits made after her death. The hypothesis proposed in this article is that the paintings record the changes occurred in the body of Sister Gertrudis on the days following her death and those presented a year later during the exhumation of her remains. Representations of the changes seen by witnesses, arguments and visual evidence of the transformations of the body in scent of holiness aimed the promotion the virtues of the Dominican woman both in Nueva Granada and in Rome.
