Las trabajadoras domésticas experimentan las formas más severas de explotación y ésta hunde sus raíces en las históricas raigambres de la esclavitud, el colonialismo y otras formas de servidumbre. En la práctica puede resultar muy difícil determinar si el trabajo doméstico constituye trabajo forzoso, servidumbre o esclavitud doméstica. No obstante, es preciso que se diferencien éstos supuestos, servidumbre, trabajo forzoso y trata de seres humanos, de los casos de imposición de condiciones ilegales de trabajo
