These terms have influenced the notion we have of this place, including the public policies implemented there. On the other hand, there are regional and/or global terms that can favor a broad reflection on what Chiloé is: aquapelago, isleidad, maritorio, maretório, shima, among others. This article seeks to establish a bridge between both ways of conceiving Chiloé, especially when today its own inhabitants see how their habitat has been put in check by a relationship with the continent that forces it to homogenize and continentalize.Chiloé, situado en el sur de Chile, ha sido referido a través del tiempo como archipiélago, isla Grande, mar interior y provincia. Estos términos han influido en la noción que tenemos sobre este lugar, incluso en las políticas públicas que allí se implementan. Por otro lado, existen términos regionales o globales que pueden favorecer una reflexión amplia sobre qué es Chiloé: aquapelago, isleidad, maritorio, maretório, shima, entre otros.
