At the beginning of this century, the British empire took important advantages over its Hispanic rival by strippingit of its commercial monopoly in the Caribbean and accumulating a mercantile and military advantage, thanks to the control of seas and its capacity for transoceanic mobilization , largely due to its naval capacity, largely fueled by the increase in ships. Starting from various official sources and from a methodology of the discipline of history , we offer an explanation of the rivalries that exacerbate timber exploitation in the Caribbean between the British and Hispanic powersEste articulo analiza la importancia de la comercialización de las maderas en el siglo XVIII. Un comercio enmarcado en el contexto de las disputas imperiales entre Inglaterra y España, momento en el cual las maderas ocuparon un lugar central en la definición de la supremacía comercial y naval en la región. A comienzos de siglo el imperio británico tomó ventajas sobre su rival hispánico al despojarlo del monopolio comercial y acumular ventajas sustantivas en lo mercantil y militar gracias a una supremacía marítima en gran medida consecuencia del aumento de sus embarcaciones.
