In this sense, “ethnic self-awareness” arises under the influence of the community of language and territory, of everyday habits and customs. This work starts from the fact that the ethnic community or ethnos is a synonym for region here. The spaces occupied by the Totonac indigenous people constitute a region with a certain coherence. Its homogeneity is established and determined by everything that arises from the ethnic community.A partir de diferentes elementos teóricos, históricos y empíricos, se indaga en las redefiniciones desarrolladas en las fronteras originarias del Totonacapan poblano. En este sentido, la “autoconciencia étnica”, surge bajo el influjo de la comunidad de la lengua y el territorio, de los hábitos y costumbres comunes. En este trabajo se parte del hecho de que la comunidad étnica o etnos constituye aquí ́ un sinónimo de región.
