AB El objetivo principal de este ensayo es ofrecer una lectura alternativa sobre la historiografía de la filosofía desarrollada en el territorio americano, espe- cialmente en los virreinatos de Nueva España y del Perú durante los siglos XVI y XVII. Se denomina filosofía virreinal a la producción filosófica que, de acuerdo con las circunstancias sociales e históricas de su contexto (o tiempo o época) planteó con originalidad. Su desarrollo tuvo dos grandes momentos: el siglo XVI, cuyo protagonismo fue para el virreinato novohispano y el siglo XVII, para el virreinato peruano.
AB The main objective of this essay is to offer an alternative reading of the histo-riography of philosophy developed in the American territory, especially in the viceroyalties of Nueva España and Peru during 16th and 17th centuries. This philosophical production is called filosofía virreinal (viceregal philosophy) in accordance with the social and historical circumstances that contextualised it and the originality of the problems that were raised.
