AB Representaciones de luchas contra los musulmanes fueron un elemento constante de las celebraciones festivas realizadas con motivo de conmemoraciones religiosas o políticas en el Brasil colonial. Este tipo de manifestaciones puede tener relación con otras que surgieron de la apropiación de la cultura visual de tales ceremonias cortesanas por parte de la sociedad compuesta por indígenas, africanos y mestizos que nació de los escombros del sistema colonial y dió origen a expresiones festivas de carácter transcultural en las que elementos islámicos, procedentes también de matriz africana, se fusionaron con amerindios y otros procedentes del culto católico impuesto al conjunto de la sociedad. Esta transformación se evidencia, en particular, en el estudio histórico de algunas fiestas en la región amazónica, que son el tema de este primer ensayo.
AB Dramatic representations of fights against Muslims were a constant element of festive celebrations held on religious or political commemorations in colonial Brazil. This type of manifestation may be related to others that arose from the appropriation of the visual culture of such court ceremonies by the society composed of indigenous, African and mestizos that was born from the rubble of the colonial system and gave rise to festive expressions of a transcultural character in which Islamic elements, also coming from an African matrix, mergedwith Amerindians and others from the Catholic cult imposed on society as a whole. This transformation is evident, in particular, in the historical study of some festivals in the Amazon region, which are the subject of this first essay.
