AB En un ambiente inmerso en profundas transformaciones devenidas por las actitudescontrarreformistas europeas, la monarquía absoluta española implantaba al llegar los siglos XVII y XVIII los cánones del barroco en las ciudades coloniales que habían sido fundadas en el continente americano entre 1492 y 1810. Los cambios en la morfología urbana de la ciudad portuaria habanera se tradujeron en la construcción de arquitecturas civiles en los siglos XVII y XVIII, donde el espíritu de lo ¿morisco¿ se fusiona con elementos barrocos, y los rasgos propios y regionales priman sobre cualquier manifestación artística. Elevadas sobre una planta en cuadrícula, presenciancontinuas amenazas de la rapiña pirática europea, derivando en el levantamiento deimponentes arquitecturas pétreas fortificadas, hoy merecedoras de estar en la Listadel Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO.
AB In an environment immersed in deep transformations resulting from European counter-reformist attitudes, the Spanish Absolute Monarchy implanted the baroque canonsin the colonial cities founded on the American continent between 1492 and 1810. Thechanges in the urban morphology of Havana¿s port city resulted in the construction of civil architecture in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, where the spirit of the¿Moorish¿ merged with baroque elements, and the regional features will prevail over any artistic manifestation. Raised on a grid plan, they will witness continuous threats from European pirate raids, resulting in the erection of imposing fortified stone architectures,today worthy of being on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
