AB Al igual que otras comunidades religiosas, a su llegada al Nuevo Reino deGranada los franciscanos iniciarían un proceso de adoctrinamiento religiosoentre las tribus indígenas, que se vería complementado con la fundación deuna serie de conventos -tanto masculinos como femeninos- localizados en lasprincipales ciudades del nuevo territorio. Surgió así la Provincia Franciscanade la Santa Fe de Colombia, que llegaría a contar con casi una treintena defundaciones conventuales.En este breve artículo analizaremos la historia y la evolución artística dealgunos de los más importantes conventos fundados por los franciscanosen Colombia entre los siglos XVI-XVIII; concretamente, nos centraremos enlos conventos de San Francisco y Santa Clara la Real en Tunja, así como elConvento de Santa Clara en Bogotá.
AB Like other religious communities, when Franciscans arrival at the NewKingdom of Granada they begin a process of religious indoctrination amongIndian tribes, which will be supplemented by the establishment of a series ofconvents, both male and female, located in major cities in the new territory.However, they founded the Franciscan Province of the Holy Faith of Colombia,which had almost thirty monastic foundations.This article analyze the history and artistic evolution of some of the mostimportant monasteries founded by the Franciscans in Colombia between the16th-18th centuries. Specifically, we focus on the monasteries of Saint Francisand Sainte Claire in Tunja, and the convent of Sainte Claire in Bogota.
