AB This study exposes the theological foundations that inspired the visual representation of the "strong women" from the Bible in Hispanic Baroque painting. To illustrate the use of these images and their catechetical function. An unpublished but incomplete pictorial series belonging to the Sevillian school and attributed to the painter Francisco de Zurbarán¿s workshop has been taken as a reference. Complementarily, various literary sources have been consulted and show how these influenced the conformation of a particular visual culture. Its objective was to help spiritual formation through examples of lives full of religious meaning.
AB Este trabajo tiene como objetivo principal exponer cuáles fueron los fundamentos teológicos que inspiraron la representación visual de las "mujeres fuertes" de la Biblia en la pintura barroca hispana. Para ilustrar el empleo de estas imágenes y de su función catequética se ha tomado como referencia una serie pictórica inédita, aunque incompleta perteneciente a la escuela sevillana y atribuida al obrador del pintor Francisco de Zurbarán. De manera complementaria se han consultado diversas fuentes literarias que demuestran cómo estas influyeron en la conformación de una cultura visual muy determinada, cuyo objetivo fue ayudar a la formación espiritual mediante ejemplos de vidas llenas de sentido religioso.
