AB For many years now, debates about American hegemony and its supposed decline have circulated the academic world. Through a novel theoretical framework, this monograph examines the complex interplay between the internal and external social forces responsible for the evolving ‘nature’ of US hegemony, from its “establishment” in the 1940s through to 2018. As such, it analyses the different stages of stability, crisis and restructuring of US hegemony under the various occupants of the White House, from Roosevelt to Trump. China's spectacular ascent is undoubtedly of great historical/global importance, but is it a potential “world hegemon”? The monograph aims to shed light on this question by analysing the economic, geopolitical, military and cultural significance of China's rise and how this affects, and in turn is affected by, US hegemony
AB Desde hace muchos años, los debates sobre la hegemonía estadounidense y su supuesto declive circulan por el mundo académico. A través de un novedoso marco teórico, esta monografía examina la compleja interacción entre las fuerzas sociales internas y externas responsables de la evolución de la “naturaleza” de la hegemonía estadounidense, desde su “establecimiento” en la década de 1940 hasta 2018. Como tal, analiza las diferentes etapas de estabilidad, crisis y reestructuración de la hegemonía estadounidense bajo los distintos ocupantes de la Casa Blanca, desde Roosevelt hasta Trump. El espectacular ascenso de China tiene sin duda una gran importancia histórica y global, pero ¿es un potencial “hegemón mundial”? La monografía pretende arrojar luz sobre esta cuestión analizando el significado económico, geopolítico, militar y cultural del ascenso de China y cómo afecta, y a su vez se ve afectado por, la hegemonía de EE.UU.
