AB Los embargos llevados a cabo por la Monarquía Hispánica contra los mercaderes ingleses asentados en la península durante los años 50 complicaron las relaciones comerciales entre Inglaterra y España, creándose una situación muy difícil para los mercaderes de ambas naciones. Pero el contexto en el que se encontró Inglaterra tras la Restauración Inglesa fue propicio para volver a retomar estas relaciones. En este estudio pretendemos hacer una aproximación a la situación en la quedó la colonia mercantil inglesa de Sevilla tras los embargos. Así mismo, se realizará un estudio comparativo del periodo inmediatamente anterior y posterior de este acontecimiento (desde mediados de los años 40 hasta 1675) ilustrándolo a través de la actividad de los mercaderes ingleses asentados en Sevilla a mediados del siglo XVII, Antonio Upton y Benjamin Bathurst.
AB The trade embargoes performed by the Hispanic Monarchy against English Merchants of the Peninsula during the 50s made trade relationships more difficult between England and Spain. This had consequently the creation of an extraordinary situation for the merchants from both countries. However, after the events of the English Restoration, we found a very favourable context in England for resuming previous contacts. In this paper, we want to create a proximate picture of the situation of the English merchant community of Seville during the period after the embargoes. Then we will compare it with the previous and following decades (from the mid-40s until 1675) studying the trading activities of the English merchants of Seville of the Seventeenth century, Antonio Upton and Benjamin Bathurst.
