AB La franja occidental y semidesértica de la Sierra Gorda fue, desde tiempos precerámicos, una región de habitación y refugio para las sociedades de recolectores cazadores; en ella podemos observar significativas muestras de la práctica ancestral del arte rupestre. Derivado del trabajo realizado a lo largo de varios an ̃os en la localización, registro y documentación de sitios de pintura y petrograbado, hemos elaborado una propuesta de distribución de tradiciones y estilos rupestres; la mayor ́ıa de los estilos son contemporáneos y aparentemente bien delimitados en el territorio, por lo que vale la pena preguntarse las razones por las que, en la misma regio ́n semidesértica, las antiguas sociedades de cazadores recolectores se expresaron en formas diferentes por medio del arte rupestre.
AB The western and semi-desert strip of the Sierra Gorda was, since pre-ceramic times, a region of habitation and refuge for hunter-gatherer societies. In this area, we can observe significant samples of the ancestral practice of rock art. As a result of work carried out over several years in locating, recording, and documenting rock painting and petroglyph sites, we have developed a proposal for the distribution of rock art traditions and styles. Most of the styles are contemporary and apparently well defined in the territory, so it is worth questioning why the ancient hunter-gatherer societies in the same semi-desert region expressed themselves differently through rock art.
