AB Las sacristías de las catedrales no sólo operaron como dependencias auxiliaresdestinadas al depósito de objetos para el culto, sino también comositios idóneos y convenientes donde confluyeron discursos visuales afinesa los usuarios que ahí tomaban asiento. La condición funcional apuntadacontribuyó al perfil cambiante o inalterable de dichos espacios según losdiversos intereses, propósitos y gustos del clero catedral. A diferencia delas sacristías de las catedrales de México y Puebla, en la estancia análogade la iglesia mayor de Valladolid de Michoacán (actual Morelia) no se fijó unprograma definitivo, sino que de forma sostenida se hicieron modificacionesque respondían a necesidades de diversa índole: devocionales, estéticas ytecnológicas. En este estudio de caso se abordan las decisiones que tomaronlos capitulares desde la habilitación de la sacristía a finales del siglo XVIIhasta las reformas acometidas en la última década de la siguiente centuria.
AB The sacristies of the cathedrals not only functioned as auxiliary rooms intendedfor the deposit of objects for worship, but also as convenient places wherevisual discourses were displayed. The condition pointed out contributed to thechanging or unalterable profile of these spaces according to various interests,purposes and tastes of the clergy. Unlike the sacristies of the cathedralsof Mexico and Puebla, in the analogous stay of the church of Valladolid deMichoacán (Morelia) a definite program was not fixed, instead many modificationswere made according to needs of diverse nature: devotional, aestheticand technological. This case study addresses the decisions made by the clergyabout the habilitation of the sacristy at the end of the seventeenth centuryuntil the reforms undertaken in the last decade of the next century.
