%X Las primeras referencias escritas acerca del arte rupestre en territoriomexicano son realmente antiguas, de momentos históricos posteriores ala conquista, hechas por viajeros, científicos y religiosos que recorrieronel territorio e hicieron de ellas una reseña narrativa y anecdótica de loque veían representado. Durante los inicios del siglo XX, la profusión ymajestuosidad de sitios monumentales mesoamericanos y la exuberanciade los materiales arqueológicos ensombrecieron y soslayaron el estudiode algunos materiales como las manifestaciones rupestres. En la actualidadse intensifican y diversifican los trabajos. El futuro de la investigaciónpara resolver algunos de los problemas que plantea ha de pasar por laintensificación del registro de yacimientos; por atender los estudios regionales;por la integración del arte rupestre a la temporalidad y contextosculturales; por profundizar en los análisis etnográficos y continuar con laatención a la preservación y conservación del arte rupestre.
%X The earliest written references to rock art in Mexican territory are reallyancient, made after the Spanish conquest by travelers, scientists and missionaries.They traveled all over the territory and narrated the drawingsthat they saw. During the beginning of the XX century, because of the wealthand magnificence of Mesoamerican monumental sites and the abundanceof archaeological materials, the study of some materials, such as the cavemanifestations, declined. In present day, scholars have again intensified anddiversified the study of rock art. The future of this research lies in trying tosolve some of the following problems: the intensification of the record ofdeposits, the consideration of regional studies, the integration of rock art into temporal and cultural contexts, the deepening of ethnographic analysis andthe continuation of attention to the preservation and conservation of rock art.
