AB Este trabajo analiza la relación existente entre elpintor Bartolomé Esteban Murillo y la aristocraciasevillana de su tiempo, centrando particularmente la atención en la amistad que lo unió a don Juan de Saavedra, marqués del Moscoso. Esta vinculación entre el noble y el pintor dio como resultado el retrato que Murillo ejecutó de don Juan en 1650. La relación entre ambos personajes se estudia a partir de diferentes factores: amistades compartidas, espacios, instituciones y gusto por el arte. Finalmente, se realiza un recorrido por la propia historia del retrato, desde el siglo XVII hasta la actualidad.
AB This paper analyzes the relationship between thepainter Bartolome Esteban Murillo and the Sevillian aristocracy of his time, focusing particularly on the friendship that linked him to don Juan de Saavedra, Marquis of Moscoso. This connection between the nobleman and the painter resulted in the portrait that Murillo executed of don Juan in 1650. Our studyconsiders different factors: shared friendships,spaces, institutions, and taste for art. Lastly, wetake a journey through the history of the portrait,from the 17th century to the present.
