%X Global history is in some instances a very sensitive field, challengingboth traditional and sometimes obsolete national narratives. It is crucialfor this project, through concrete case studies, to rethink the waysin which global history is envisioned and conceptualized in China andJapan, as well as European and American countries. When a historianconstructs a meta narratives, this will always contain a subjective elementborne out of ideological and national constraints. Therefore, we shouldformulate the following pertinent question: how do global events connectto our local and national communities, and, by extension, to ouracademic environment?
