AB A principios del siglo II d.C., Plinio el Joven es nombrado por el emperador Trajano de forma extraordinaria gobernador de Bitinia-Ponto, una provincia senatorial hasta ese momento. Este singular hecho aparece detalladamente recogido en el conocido Libro X de las Epistolae de Plinio. A partir del análisis de la información proporcionada por la correspondencia mantenida entre Trajano y Plinio y, también, de los conocimientos aportados por la historiografía actual, el objetivo de este trabajo es la reconstrucción de ese gobierno extraordinario para insertarlo e interpretarlo dentro del marco general de la administración provincial romana durante el Alto Imperio. De este modo, se podrá valorar la actuación de Plinio en función de los fines que perseguía la política imperial.(EN) At the beginning of the second century A.D., Pliny the Younger is extraordinarily named governor of Bithynia-Pontus by the Emperor Trajan, which was a senatorial province until that moment. This special fact appears compiled in detail in the well-known Book X of Pliny¿s Epistolae. From the analysis of the information provided by the correspondence between Trajan and Pliny, and also the knowledge supplied by the current historiography, this paper is aim to reconstruct this extraordinarily government in order to insert and to interpret it in the general context of the Roman provincial administration during the High Empire. Thus, Pliny¿s performance is going to be valued according to the aims that pursued the imperial politics.
