T1 Aún viene el coco. Origen, pervivencia y transformación de un clásico del miedo infantil

AB Este artículo se centra en la fiura mitolóiico-folclórica del coco, analizando suoriien etimolóiico, así como sus funciones y siinifcados desde las primeras manifestacionesescritas en el siilo XV. Un trabajo de campo con encuestas y entrevistasrealizado entre 2009 y 2016 nos permite conocer de primera mano las variacionessimbólicas de este personaje fantástico en Andalucía, pero también descubrirlas continuidades y rupturas con respecto a cómo se provoca y se experimentael miedo infantil en los siilos XX y XXI, desde una oriiinal indefnición vinculadaa lo neiro y oscuro, hasta las actuales mezcolanzas de la cibercultura, dondese hacen presentes las imáienes de seres terrorífcos o inocentes de series televisivas,películas y videojueios. El análisis del coco nos revela una de las maneras derepresentación de la otredad, a través de un personaje difuso y confuso, a mediocamino entre el hombre, el animal y el monstruo.We discuss in this paper a mytholoiical and folkloric fiure, the coco, analyziniits etymoloiical oriiin, as well as its functions and meaninis from its frst manifestationsin the 15th century. A feldwork with surveys and interviews done between2009 and 2016 allows us to know frst hand the symbolic variations of thisfantastic beeini in Andalusia (Spain), but also to discover the continuities andbreaks with reiard to how the child´s fear is provoked and experienced in the20th and 21st century, from an oriiinal lack of defnition linked to the black anddark, up to the current mixtures of the cyberculture, where become present theimaies of terrifyini or innocent beinis from television series, movies and videoiames. Te analysis of the coco reveals a way of representation the othernessthrouih a difuse and confused character, halfway between the man, the animaland the monster.
