AB En 1789 tiene lugar la exaltación al trono de Carlos IV y la jura como príncipe de Fernando VII. Los adornos levantados por el recorrido ceremonial tradicional son testimonio del periodo de transición de estilo arquitectónico. Contamos con grabados y acuarelas que muestran varios diseños de los adornos y de las arquitecturas efímeras levantadas por toda la carrera, que manifiestan una disparidad entre el Barroco y el Neoclasicismo, clara muestra de que la nueva arquitectura, que ya estaba en pleno auge en países como Francia, no había cuajado todavía en España. El texto que re- cogió además la descripción de los festejos y de las arquitecturas efímeras también plasma un intenso debate entre lo antiguo y lo moderno.
AB In 1789 celebrations were staged for Carlos IV¿s coronation in conjunction with the ceremonial oath of loyalty sworn by Prince Fernando VII. The decorations created to adorn the traditional ceremonial route demonstrate the stylistic transition architecture was undergoing at that time. Engravings and watercolours document the range of designs created for both the ornamental features and ephemeral architecture that was built. These signal a disparity between the Baroque and Neoclassical styles, and they clearly reveal the emergence of the new architectural language, which was at its peak in countries such as France, but had that still not fully taken root in Spain. The text under study offers a description of the festivities and the ephemeral architecture built for this event, and furthermore engages in an intense debate on the theme of the querelle des Anciens et des Modernes.
