AB El trabajo repasa la consideración de los jeroglíficos y los signos antiguos en el contexto del siglo XVII y particularmente en relación con la tarea de expansión mundial del cristianismo asumida por los jesuitas y las consiguientes dificultades de comunicación lingüística y perspectivas culturales. Se considera la utilización de elementos de la flora y fauna locales como signos capaces de reproducir los significados propios de la ornamentación europea a través de un proceso de adaptación a las características americanas, haciendo hincapié en la capacidad de los signos de representar más allá de las palabras. Finalmente señala los estudios realizados desde fines del siglo XIX a propósito de los caracteres chinos y su influencia en algunas tendencias de la poesía contemporánea.
AB The work reviews the consideration of hieroglyphs and ancient signs in the context of the 17th century and particularly in relation to the task of worldwide expansion of Christianity assumed by the Jesuits and the subsequent difficulties of linguistic communication and cultural perspectives. The use of elements of local flora and fauna as signs capable of reproducing the meanings of European religious ornamentation through a process of adaptation to Americancharacteristics is considered, making evidence of the ability of signs torepresent beyond words. Finally, it points out the studies carried out since the end of the 19th century on Chinese characters and their influence on some trends in contemporary poetry.
