%X Los seres humanos han pintado para reflejar acontecimientos desde el principio de los tiempos. Desde que las pinturas rupestres marcaran un punto de inflexión en cuanto a la comunicación y transmisión del saber, hasta que el grafiti se hiciera eco de las demandas sociopolíticas de la juventud en Mayo del 68 y, posteriormente, se apoderara de los metros neoyorquinos para afianzarse como medio de expresión; muros, paredes, trenes o vallas publicitarias se han convertido en el mejor lienzo para que los grafiteros estampen sus piezas anónima y espontáneamente. El presente trabajo de investigación tiene como objetivo principal averiguar las motivaciones que llevan a un grafitero a autoconstruirse como tal. Las cinco entrevistas en profundidad y la observación participante revelarán que no solo la adrenalina o la denuncia social son factores que explican su comportamiento. Los grafiteros son capaces de renunciar a su libertad por el que se ha convertido en su bien más preciado: el reconocimiento.
%X Human beings have painted in order to reflect events since the beginning of time. Since cave paintings marked a turning point in terms of communication and transmission of knowledge, until graffiti echoed the sociopolitical demands of young people in May 1968 and, later on, took over the New York subways to establish itself as a means of expression; walls, trains or billboards have become the best canvas for graffiti artists to print their pieces anonymously and spontaneously. The main objective of this research work is to find out the motivations that lead a graffiti artist to build himself as such. The five in-depth interviews and participant observation will reveal that the factors that explain their behavior are not only adrenaline or social criticism. Graffiti artists are capable of renouncing their freedom for what has become their most precious asset: appreciation.
