%X La cosmovisión y la identidad de las sociedades amerindias durante elperíodo colonial son temas de difícil inferencia desde la Etnohistoria.Ante este desafío, este artículo presenta un estudio acerca de la regióndel complejo hidrográfico del Madeira, en el suroeste de laAmazonía, durante la primera mitad del siglo XVIII. A partir de larevisión crítica de las principales fuentes primarias de la región, sepretende abarcar esta problemática mediante el análisis de las estrategiasy los mecanismos de respuesta desarrollados por los amerindios.Con esto, este artículo pretende demostrar cómo el estudio de lasrelaciones interétnicas puede ayudar a revelar nuevos datos acerca delas dinámicas socioculturales de los distintos grupos indígenas, y acomprender cómo éstos construían y reformulaban sus identidadestanto étnicas como sociales.
%X Subjects such as the worldview and the identity of Amerindian societiesthroughout the colonial period are a difficult matter to infer fromethnohistorical data. Before this challenge, this article presents a studyon the region of the Madeira River, in the southwest of Amazonia, duringthe first half of the eighteenth century. Based on the critical review of someof the most important primary sources available for the region, it aims attackling this issue by means of the analysis of the strategies and responsemechanisms developed by Amerindians. With this, this article hopes todemonstrate how the study of interethnic relations may contribute tounveil new data regarding the sociocultural dynamics of the indigenousgroups, and to better understand how they constructed and refashionedboth their ethnic and social identities
