AB Este estudio sobre los azulejos de la antigua Capilla de la Inmaculada Concepción de la Catedral de Lima que incluyen figuras desnudas y mitológicas de gran escala da cuenta de las diferentes claves de lectura de este espacio en un contexto iconográfico y alegórico, a la vez que performático. Mediante una comparación con el uso de azulejos en otros espacios limeños, en este análisis se tiene en cuenta el movimiento del espectador en la capilla en relación con las procesiones que culminaron en ella a mediados del siglo XVII, cuando se concibió la capilla. Así mismo, se considera la influencia de los debates teológicos sobre la Inmaculada Concepción que tuvieron lugar en los círculos intelectuales en el Perú virreinal en los que se produce un diálogo sofisticado entre referentes clásicos y bíblicos como ocurre en estos azulejos.
AB This study of an azulejo cycle with large-scale nude, mythological figures at the seventeenth-century Chapel of the Immaculate Conception in the Cathedral of Lima offers different perspectives in order to understand this space in an iconographic, allegorical and performative context. By comparing the imagery to the use of azulejos in other spaces of Lima, this analysis takes into account the movement of the spectator around the chapel in connection to the processions that culminated in this space in the mid-seventeenth century, at the time of its conception. Likewise, it considers the theological debates on the Immaculate Conception that took place amidst the intellectual circles in Viceroyal Peru, in which a sophisticated dialogue between classical and biblical references, much like that in the azulejo cycle, takes place.
