In spite of the more formal nature of theirwork in the present day, still a considerable volume of women¿s contributions remains invisibleto official statistics. This study, based on interviews with over 500 women in small and mediumfamily firms, brings this informal work into view, quantifying it in terms of hours worked andmonetary value, exploring the reasons for its informality and examining the risks andprecariousness it entails.
