%X La Academia de San Carlos de México es la primera escuela de artesfundada en el Nuevo Mundo, bajo el reinado de Carlos III de España.Su establecimiento marcó una brecha con la estructura gremial, transformandola manera de trabajar de los artistas. Estos cambios sedebían, en gran medida, a los nuevos métodos de enseñanza, queoptaban por la copia directa de obra de renombrados artistas; por loque era indispensable que la Academia contara con colecciones dearte con las que pudieran trabajar los alumnos. Este texto pretendeser un acercamiento al acervo de escultura en yeso que perteneció adicha escuela, se presentará el inicio de la colección, las adquisicionesque se realizaron en las diferentes etapas históricas de la escuela y seexpondrá un balance general del estado actual del acervo.
%X The Academy of San Carlos in Mexico, is the first school of arts foundedin the New World, under the reign of Carlos III of Spain. Its structuremarked a breach with the gremial structure, transforming the artists' wayof working. These changes were largely due to new methods of teaching,which opted for the direct copy of the work of renowned artists; so it wasessential that the Academy had collections of Art, with which studentscould work. This text aims to be an approach to the collection of sculpturein plaster belonging to a school, the beginning of the collection is presented,the acquisitions that were made in the different historical stages of theschool and present a general balance of the current state of the collection.
