AB Desde los inicios de la presencia española en América, el culto a San José arraigó gracias al papel que desempeñaron las órdenes religiosas para lograr que los valores de este personaje empatizaran con las necesidades espirituales de aquellos habitantes. Con la institución de su patrocinio sobre el virreinato de Nueva España aumentaron considerablemente las representaciones pictóricas, siendo en el siglo XVIII cuando la escuela novohispana, influenciada por los modelos murillescos,difundiera una composición acorde con la devoción doméstica, en la que se ponía de relieve la faceta paternalista de San José con el Niño como corredentor de la Humanidad y ejemplo de virtudes.
AB From the beggining of the Spanish presence in America, the devotion to Saint Joseph proliferated thanks to the role that performed the religious orders to achieve that the values of this personage empathized with the spiritual needs of those people. With the establishment of its sponsorship on the Viceroyalty of the New Spain enlarged considerably their pictorial representations, being in the 18th century, when the esthetics novohispana, influenced by Murillo, to diffusea harmonious model with the domestic devotion in which was put of relief the paternalistic facet of San José with the Child as corredentor of the Humanity and model of virtues.
