AB Este trabajo centra el interés en el “cuerpo vestido” que somos, para acercarnos a los significados y sentidos que asignan los enfermos a la exposición de su cuerpo y a su identificación genérica al ser sometidos al uso de una “bata de hospital”. Es una aproximación a las experiencias que vive el “cuerpo doliente” a través de la interpretación del lenguaje corporal (expresiones motoras y verbales) de un grupo de varones y mujeres (adultos jóvenes, medios y mayores), en el momento de su admisión en un hospital de la Ciudad de Cuenca (Ecuador). Cuarenta enfermos admitidos fueron sujetos de observación participante y el mismo número de enfermeras, con experiencia en admisión y cuidado, ofrecieron testimonios acerca del tema. Las vivencias corresponden a un cuerpo incomodado físicamente, limitado en su movimiento, intimidad y pudor, e ignorado en su identidad.
AB This work focuses on the "dressed body" that we are, to approach the meanings and significance that patients assign to the exposure of their bodies and their generic identification when subjected to the use of a "hospital gown". It is an approximation to the experiences of the "suffering body" through the interpretation of body language (verbal and motor expressions) of a group of men and women (young adults, middle and older), at the time of their admission into a hospital in the city of Cuenca (Ecuador). Forty admitted patients were subjects of participant observation and the same number of nurses, with experience in admission and care, offered testimonies about the subject. The experiences correspond to a physically bothered body, limited in its movement, intimacy, and sense of decency; and ignored in its identity.
