AB La importancia que adquirió el culto a las reliquias para los duques de Medina Sidonia y señores de Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz), se evidencia en la importante colección que atesoraron a lo largo de los siglos XVI y XVII. Conservada al principio en la capilla ducal de la tribuna que unía el palacio sanluqueño a la parroquia mayor de Ntra. Sra. de la O, sería finalmente trasladada por el VII duque D. Alonso en 1612 a su personal fundación, el Santuario de Ntra. Sra. de la Caridad, en la misma localidad, elegido panteón funerario. Fue solemnemente donada en noviembre de 1613, con sus contenedores de madera tallada, policromada y dorada, de tipología variada, como bustos-relicario, imágenes- relicario, brazos-relicario o en forma de templete, y algunos labrados en plata sobredorada y cristal, resultando relevante la cantidad aún conservada.
AB The importance that the cult of relics acquired for the Dukes of Medina Sidonia and Lords of Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz) is evident in the important collection that they treasured throughout the 16th and 17th centuries. Initially kept in the ducal chapel of the tribune that linked the Sanlúcar palace to the main parish church of Nuestra Señora de la O, it was finally moved by the 7th Duke, D. Alonso, in 1612 to his personal foundation, the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de la Caridad, in the same town, where it was chosen as his burial place. It was solemnly donated in November 1613, with its carved, polychrome and gilded wooden containers, of various types, such as busts-reliquary, images-reliquary, arms-reliquary or in the form of a shrine, and some carved in gilded silver and glass, the quantity still conserved being relevant.
