AB En agosto 2019 la Ciudad de Panamá cumplirá 500 años de fundación,y la mirada estará centrada en su primer centro fundacional: elyacimiento arqueológico hoy conocido como Conjunto MonumentalHistórico Panamá Viejo. Los restos de la primera ciudad fundadaa orillas del océano Pacífico, son parte de la identidad oficial delpanameño desde el final del Siglo XIX y Patrimonio Mundial desdeel 2003. En tal sentido, son muchas las expectativas respecto a lacapacidad de respuesta de los especialistas en cuanto a la historia y lavaloración del sitio como punto de origen de la urbe actual.Desde 1996, el Proyecto Arqueológico Panamá Viejo(PAPV) desarrolla el programa permanente de investigación en elyacimiento, habiendo logrado a la fecha importantes avances de rescatede la historia del sitio arqueológico, en sus etapas de ocupacióndesde tiempos prehispánicos hasta el 1671, cuando la ciudad fuedestruida a causa del ataque del pirata inglés Henry Morgan. Desdeel año 2014, el PAPV se encuentra en redefinición para programarlas acciones a implementar, de cara al V Centenario, desde el puntode vista de la investigación y la gestión del patrimonio arqueológico,con miras a robustecer la imagen del yacimiento dentro del contextoglobal hispanoamericano.
AB In August 2019 the City of Panama reaches 500 years of foundationand the focus will be centered in its first foundational center: the archaeologicalsite actually known as Conjunto Monumental HistóricoPanamá Viejo. The remains of the first city founded on the PacificOcean are part of the official identity of the country since the end of the nineteenth century and World Heritage since 2003. There will be greatexpectations and pressure in terms of the knowledge about the historyand site assessment as a point of origin of the current city.Since 1996, the Panama Viejo Archaeological Project (PVAP)develops permanent research in the field, having achieved significantprogress to date in rescueing the history of the archaeological site intheir stages of occupation from prehistoric times until 1671, when thecity was destroyed by the English pirate Henry Morgan. Since 2014,the PVAP is being redefined to program the actions to be implementedfacing the V Centennial. From the standpoint of the research and thearchaeological heritage management in order to strengthen the image ofthe old city within the Spanish American global context.
