AB El interés por el estudio del arte rupestre en Guatemala se intensificó a partir de los años 90’. A partir de esa década se iniciaron pequeños programas para el registro e inventario de dichos lugares, de tal manera que hoy día se tiene reporte de lugares con manifestaciones rupestres en todo el territorio nacional. Por tal razón nos enfocamos en realizar un recorrido general de los lugares con manifestaciones rupestres y con un enfoque particular a la región este del territorio guatemalteco, esto debido a que es un espacio territorial con poca investigación arqueológica. Esta región muestra gran cantidad de sitios con manifestaciones gráfico-rupestres, pintura y petrograbados, variedad de estilos y técnicas de elaboración, estamos seguros de que estos lugares describen los hechos y la historia social, religiosa, geológica y geográfica de sus antiguos habitantes, y su estudio permitirá aportar al conocimiento de una parte de la historia de estos pueblos. Es además un grito de alerta ante la inminente desaparición de algunos de estos espacios debido a factores como el crecimiento de la masa urbana, la extracción minera, el vandalismo, el fundamentalismo religioso. Estos son algunos de los riesgos y amenazas que afectan la conservación de los remanentes culturales.

NO Studying interest of rock art in Guatemala got intensified in the 1990 ́s. Since this decade small programs started for the recording and inventory of such sites, in such way nowadays there are records of places with rock art demonstrations through all national territory. For such reason we focus on realization of a general route over the places with rock art manifestation, and with a particular focus on East Guatemalan region territory, because it is a territorial space with scarce archaeological research. This region shows great amount of sites with graphic-rock art manifestations, paint and petroglyphs, variety of styles and elaboration forms. we are sure this places describe facts and social, religious, geological and geographical History of its ancient habitants, and studying them will aport to the knowledge of a part of the History of these peoples. It is also an alert screaming towards the imminent disappearance of some of these spaces due to facts as urban mass grow, mining, vandalism, and religious fundamentalism. These are some of the risks and threats that affect cultural remnants conservation.
