AB El estudio de la cultura material y las manifestaciones visuales precolombinas se ha realizado desde distintas disciplinas, entre ellas destaca la arqueología, campo de conocimiento que en el ámbito latinoamericano se ha consolidado como el principal medio para acercarnos a las antiguas culturas americanas. Sin embargo, existen otras tradiciones de estudio que también han hecho apor- tes significativos. En este contexto, el presente trabajo plantea una reflexión sobre la enseñanza del arte precolombino desde la historia del arte, tomando como referencia una experiencia docente en dicha materia. Se plantea una reflexión general sobre los principales ejes de la enseñanza y las estrategias pedagógicas empleadas (tales como la observación mediante el dibujo y la elaboración de un sitio web por parte de los alumnos), así como los necesarios puentes que se construyen hacia otros campos, como la misma arqueología, la historia y la antropología. Las reflexiones que se exploran, en última instancia, son: ¿Cómo enseñar el arte precolombino?, ¿por qué enseñarlo?, ¿qué camino seguir?, ¿qué pertinencia tiene su estudio en el contexto académico actual?, ¿cuál o cuáles son las necesidades presentes en las sociedades contemporáneas que hacen necesaria la comprensión de este patrimonio?
AB The study of pre-Columbian material and visual culture has been carried out from different disciplines, among them archeology stands out, a field of knowledge that in Latin America has established as the main way of approaching to ancient American cultures. However, there are other study traditions that have also made significant contributions. In this context, this paper discusses the teaching of pre-Columbian art from a perspective of Art History, taking as a reference a teaching experience in this matter. Issues exposed are the treatment of main teacher topics and the pedagogical strategies (such as observation through drawing and the elaboration of a website by the students), as well as the necessary bridges that are built to other fields, such as archeology, history and anthropology. Ultimately, the questions that are explored are: How to teach pre-Columbian art? Why teach it? How to proceed? How relevant is its study in the current academic context? What are the needs in contemporary societies that make it necessary to understand this heritage?
