Abstract

The article aims to explore and analyze how the impact of the Italo-Ethiopian conflict (1935-1941) in Cuba, being the first event that placed fascism in the national public debate, was not overshadowed by the development of the Spanish Civil War, and continued to be present in the mobilizations and expressions that arose from the Cuban anti-fascist movement and the transnational networks that were organized. Based on the review of the most important Cuban press of the moment, the article shows that the struggle that began in 1935 in favor of Ethiopia, and that had as protagonists the Cuban Communist Party, the labor movement, and the most progressive Cuban intellectuals, in 1936 extended to the Spanish cause, beyond the fact that it continued to defend Abyssinian sovereignty, recognizing both conflicts as part of the expansion of fascism.
