El descubrimiento del océano Atlántico por Roma. Una perspectiva metodológica

Abstract

Desde la llegada de los fenicios al ámbito del Estrecho de Gibraltar, distintas culturas surcaron el Atlántico europeo en busca de recursos económicos. Cuando Roma conquiste sus provincias occidentales, los emperadores romanos utilizarán el conocimiento marítimo acumulado durante siglos para mantener el abastecimiento de sus ejércitos en Britania y en la frontera del Rin desde principios del siglo I d.C. No conocemos esa ruta atlántica, dada la parquedad de las fuentes literarias y la escasez de vestigios arqueológicos subacuáticos, conectados entre sí.
