Corona del cielo empíreo. La cúpula de la catedral de Salamanca y su programa iconográfico

Abstract

El cimborrio de la Catedral de Salamanca concitó la sorpresa y maravilla de habituales y visitantes en su primera edición de 1733. Tal y como informan las fuentes, un complejo programa iconográfico revestía los diferentes niveles de su estructura por el interior. Los desperfectos ocasionados por el terremoto de Lisboa de 1755 agravaron su existencia hasta el punto de tener que ser desmontado y reconstruido, eso sí, bajo modalidad de cúpula y con otras formas. Sin embargo, una notable parte de las imágenes que se distribuían por su interior fueron ubicadas en los mismos lugares, como fue el caso de las situadas en las pechinas y el ochavo. En este trabajo abordamos por vez primera el fondo del programa iconográfico, sus fuentes gráficas y la vinculación con otros ámbitos inmediatos de la seo.The dome of the Cathedral of Salamanca aroused the surprise of regulars and visitors in its first edition in 1733. As the documentary sources report a complex iconographic program covered the different levels of its structure on the inside. The damage caused by the Lisbon earthquake in 1755 aggravated its existence to the point of having to be dismantled and rebuilt under the dome mode and with other forms. However, a notable part of the images that were distributed inside were located in the same places, as was the case of those located in the pendentives and the 'ochavo'. In this work we broach for the first time the background of the iconographic program, its graphic sources and the link with other immediate cathedral's areas.
