Abstract
Este trabajo utilizará la obra pictórica de Melchor Pérez Holguín como marco de referencia para comprender el mundo social del Potosí del siglo XVIII. Se analizarán las múltiples alegorías, la utilización de la fiesta como refuerzo de la autoridad de las elites y del poder virreinal, las divergencias jurisdiccionales y el mundo corporativo de la ciudad indiana colonial. El cuadro de Melchor Pérez Holguín constituye, sin dudas, un valioso documento pictórico que nos acerca a descubrir la vida social y política del mundo colonial americano.
This articule will use the painting of Melchor Pérez Holguin as a framework for understanding the social world of eighteenth-century Potosí. We will analyze the many allegories, using the party as a reinforcement of the authority of the elites and the colonial power, jurisdictional differences and the corporate world of the colonial Indian city.
