Abstract
El objetivo principal de este ensayo es ofrecer una lectura alternativa sobre la historiografía de la filosofía desarrollada en el territorio americano, espe- cialmente en los virreinatos de Nueva España y del Perú durante los siglos XVI y XVII. Se denomina filosofía virreinal a la producción filosófica que, de acuerdo con las circunstancias sociales e históricas de su contexto (o tiempo o época) planteó con originalidad. Su desarrollo tuvo dos grandes momentos: el siglo XVI, cuyo protagonismo fue para el virreinato novohispano y el siglo XVII, para el virreinato peruano.
