Abstract
This work explores the extension of peri-urban agricultural sectors in Córdoba, particularly those that were irrigated, from the Late Antique period to the Umayyad period. Historiography has defined a late antique Córdoba surrounded by basilicas, highlighting primarily its religious role, but often overlooking its residential and productive functions as Christian estates or monasteries. However, both textual and archaeological evidence demonstrate that such spaces had great economic importance. After the Islamic conquest, a good portion of these peri-urban areas gradually came under the control of the Umayyad elites, who developed an extensive network of almunias around the city, largely based on patterns established previously by late antique estates.
