Abstract

Throughout the Caste War of Yucatán, the press became a vehicle of opinions communicating the events of the war by means of written information. Said publications contained arguments that not only questioned the Mayan Indians who were fighting, but also judged them, thus drastically undermining the native peoples. Therefore, this article proposes a comparison of the public opinion of the Mayan rebels in contrast with that of the white soldiers, by means of the analysis of the Yucatecan newspapers that circulated during the first period of the war (1847 ¿ 1853)
