La Catedral de Málaga, entre tradición e innovación

Abstract

La Catedral de Málaga, una de las grandes catedrales de España, es resultado de diferentes intervenciones marcadas por tiempos de esplendor. El final del reinado de los Reyes Católicos y los primeros Austrias, dieron lugar a una magnífica obra renacentista que quedó inconclusa en 1588. Por otro lado, el auge del siglo XVIII, con la presencia de una nueva monarquía y la rehabilitación de la economía, determinó la reanudación de las obras marcando esta ampliación el peso de la tradición, especialmente en su interior; al exterior las únicas estridencias barrocas se manifiestan en el uso de materiales polícromos y alguna fantasía en los soportes aunque forzados por su simbología. Grandes maestros llevaron a cabo esta obra a lo largo del siglo: Bada, Ramos y finalmente Aldehuela, aunque otros importantes participaron con informes, planos, sugerencias, etc.Malaga Cathedral, one of the great cathedrals in Spain, is the result of different interventions marked by times of splendor. Great masters carried out this work throughout the century: Bada, Ramos and finally Aldehuela, although other important ones participated with reports, plans, suggestions, etc.
