| dc.description.abstract | A partir de una noticia recogida en los Anales de Sevilla de José Velázquez y Sánchez (1872) estudiamos en el presente artículo las circunstancias que rodearon la realización en 1822 de una pintura de tema histórico contemporáneo representando la muerte del primogénito del marqués de Casa Tabares, que Velázquez y Sánchez atribuye a Antonio María Esquivel, y que no aparece reflejada en ninguna biografía o catálogo del pintor. Analizamos aquí las fuentes de Velázquez y Sánchez, así como las circunstancias de la muerte de José Montalvo Curiel y el modo en que sus compañeros de la Milicia Nacional buscaron honrar su muerte a través de una pintura que perpetuara su sacrificio y fuera ejemplo para otros milicianos. | |
| dc.description.abstract | Based on a report in the Anales de Sevilla by José Velázquez y Sánchez (1872), this paper examines the circumstances surrounding the execution in 1822 of a painting, whose contemporary historical theme depicted the death of the first-born son of the Marquis of Casa Tabares. Velázquez y Sánchez attributes its authorship to Antonio María Esquivel, though this painting is not mentioned in any biography or catalogue of the painter. The aim of this paper is to analyse both the sources used by Velázquez y Sánchez, the circumstances of José Montalvo Curiel’s death and the way in which his brothers in arms in the National Militia sought to honour his death, which occurred in pursuit of a realist faction, with a painting that would perpetuate his sacrifice and set an example to other militiamen. | |
