Circulación y usos de la imagen impresa en Nueva España. Los grabados de Luca Ciamberlano sobre san Felipe Neri

Abstract

El grabador romano, Luca Ciamberlano (1580- h. 1650) realizó hacia 1615 una serie de cuarenta y cuatro láminas sobre los hechos y vida del florentino Felipe Neri, y que fueron utilizadas para promover su canonización y difundir los dones del santo. En este texto se explicarán los motivos de factura de los grabados y los artífices involucrados. Además, se expondrán las dinámicas de circulación de las láminas impresas y su uso en el virreinato novohispano. Con ello se establecerá la relación iconotextual entre las imágenes y el libro que las contenía, así como su traducción a un lenguaje pictórico durante el siglo XVIII que fue primordial dentro del carisma de la Congregación del Oratorio.

The Roman engraver, Luca Ciamberlano (1580-h. 1650) created around 1615 a series of forty-four plates on the events and life of Florentine Felipe Neri, which were used to promote his canonization and spread the gifts of the saint. This 122 text will explain the reasons for the invoice of the engravings and the artists involved. In addition, the dynamics of circulation of printed plates and their use in the Spanish viceroyalty of New Spain will be brought to light. This will establish the icono-textual relationship between the images and the book that contained them, as well as their translation into a pictorial language during the 18th century that was primordial within the charism of the Congregation of the Oratory.
