¡Y desembarcó con más de sesenta y ocho cajones! El menaje de Antonio Caballero y Góngora en tres provincias: Yucatán, Santa Fe de Bogotá y Córdoba

Abstract

En el siglo XVIII, Antonio Caballero y Góngora fue un personaje notable para América y España, ya que ocupó los cargos de: obispo de Yucatán, arzobispo de Santa Fe de Bogotá, virrey de la Nueva Granada y, por último, arzobispo de Córdoba. Un clérigo que se caracterizó por ser uno de los primeros ilustrados que tuvo bajo su poder una amplia compilación de libros en varios idiomas, pinturas y objetos artísticos de notables artífices europeos, una vasta colección de numismática y una gran diversidad de objetos científicos que constituían su inseparable equipaje. Aunque en la actualidad existen muchos estudios que tratan su desempeño en el territorio neogranadino y cordobés, aún queda un aspecto que no ha sido estudiado del todo: el menaje con el que pisa por primera vez tierras americanas en 1776 y que trasladó por tres provincias. Un tema que permitirá entender parte de su cultura material.

In the 18th century, Antonio Caballero y Góngora was a distinguished person in America and Spain, since he held different positions like: Bishop of Yucatán, Archbishop of Santa Fe de Bogotá, Viceroy of New Granada and finally, 54 Archbishop of Córdoba, Spain. He was a clergyman characterized like the first enlightened who had an extensive compilation of books in various languages, several paintings, and artistic objects of notorious European architects, furthermore an extensive collection of numismatic and diversity of scientific objects that were an inseparable part of his baggage. Currently there are many studies that ponder the Caballero y Góngora’s government in New Granada and Cordoba, but one aspect has not been fully studied: the utensils that he brought for the first time to American in 1776 and later, when he moved through the three provinces. A topic that will allow to understand a part of the material culture contained in his luggage.
