Abstract
Camelids have been fundamental to the life of the populations of northwestern Argentina throughout history, playing central roles in their economies and worldviews. However, the nature of this relationship has changed over time, adapting to changing needs and socio-environmental contexts. Rock art allows us to explore the diverse ways in which human groups interacted with these animals at different times, thus revealing the complexity and dynamism of this relationship. To this end, we will refer to the analysis of rock art from the comparison of three micro-regions of Northwest Argentina, describing and discussing the different situations and ways in which camelids were included in the social, economic and daily life activities of the pre-Hispanic groups of the NOA.
